Kalawao County holds a unique place in Hawaiʻi's history. With the passage of Act 171, the community has an opportunity to learn what the law says, ask difficult questions, and consider the future together.
This gathering is not a hearing, a protest, or a campaign. It is a day set aside for people to read the same document, hear each other, and decide for themselves.

The Act amends or repeals numerous sections of Hawaiʻi Revised Statutes Chapter 326. We encourage anyone attending to read it beforehand.
Act 171 passed both chambers unanimously. The conference committee reported it out with amendments on May 1, 2026; the Senate passed Final Reading 25–0 on May 6 with no reservations, and the House passed it the same day with none voting no. The Governor signed it on June 26, 2026.
