Aloha Diplomacy

Aloha Diplomacy is a community forming around a simple commitment: that civic life requires real participation, real thought, and real presence with each other — not performance on platforms built to extract from us. We are rooted in Molokaʻi. We meet in person. The platform behind this page, Sovereign, is invitation-only: every member was invited by someone who vouches for them personally. No followers, no likes, no algorithms.

Between 1866 and 1969, roughly eight thousand people were exiled to Kalaupapa. Before it was a settlement, the peninsula was ahupuaʻa — and in the 1880s and 90s the families living there were cleared from the land to make room for more patients. Two removals, in the same place. Under the law enacted this session, the state’s authority over Kalaupapa ends two years after the last patient passes away — and the law requires consultation with the Molokaʻi community about what comes next. That consultation has not happened yet. We are gathering — with food, music, and each other — to begin talking before the decisions are made, and to begin keeping this record ourselves. The record is being shown to descendant families first, before anything is made public.
